What are the Association for Specialist Fire Protection “COLOUR” Books?

You might have heard of the red book? And you would be thinking CSR Gyprock Fire and Acoustic Systems? If you have found this a useful document there is another Red Book available …. and a grey book, a blue book and an orange book. These are published by the ASFP (Association for Specialist Fire Protection). This UK trade based organisation

strives to promote excellence in the design and installation of fire protection products through high quality and technical expertise, by fostering the education and training of all those involved in the development, specification and use of ‘Built-In’ Fire Protection.”

One of the key benefits for Australian designers and installers referring to UK publications is the similarity between the test methodologies in the relevant British Standards (BS) and AS1530.4 standards. The ASFP color books provide a very useful resource and are available as a free download. We highly recommend them as a useful reference tool.

The ASFP Ensuring Best Practice Guide is another useful publication. This 76 page guide

“is intended to offer architects, designers, constructors, building occupiers and others, effective and feasible recommendations and selection criteria for the use of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) systems in buildings. It is the outcome of a three year ‘Partners in Innovation’ project, which was partly funded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) (formerly DTLR).”
