Blackberry

You could email, text, twitter, IM, facebook those blog requests ...

Most times I remember to ask prospective clients whether they have something they would like a blog on to clear up a query or resolve an issue in their office. Be it Building Regulations, BCA, Building Codes, Australian Standards, even OH&S .. So I thought I would blog about how we could receive the requests. Here’s some first thoughts:

  1. Email them;
  2. Text them;
  3. Twitter them (We are not on twitter yet!)
  4. Facebook them (Not sure what that actually means?!)
  5. Instant Message them;
  6. Post them (by snail mail that is);
  7. Photograph them and post them on Picasa-web;
  8. Google Doc them;
  9. Phone us?!?
  10. Post them on our blog on a special page with comments.

We like this last one. Posting them as comments on a blog post means they will quickly disappear into the archives behind our home page, searchable yes, but a bit out of mind, out of sight. But, if we keep the page as a link on the home page the reminder will always be there. Please don’t stop those Building Regulation, BCA, Alternative Solution, Energy Efficiency blog requests coming!

Building Regulations 101

The key to successful blogging is ...

The more we learn about our own professions the harder it seems to communicate things more simply. The more expertise I have gained the more I have needed to focus on simplifying things for staff, clients, authorities, seminar attendees – everybody! At BDC Building Design Compliance we are on a mission to simplify all things building surveying, whether it’s the Act, Regulations, BCA, the Australian Standards, our Consultant’s advices … Some of the projects we have underway include:

  • This new blog – The Building Regulations Blog;
  • (Over at Fire Safety Consulting Pty Ltd – The Fire and Life Safety Blog is still evolving as a tool more for Property and Facility Managers);
  • Our new BCA and Building Regulations 101 videos;
  • More development of our “2 Stage Consultant’s Advice”;
  • More detailed checklists for the Australian Standards;
  • More flowcharts to ensure we do things consistently (every time);
  • More discipline in the use of our project management tool – “Feng Office“;
  • Refining the BDC Road Map including the Building Regulati0ns Checklist, ESM Assessment Checklist and the Australian Standards checklist.

The common theme is the harder it gets the simpler we have to make it. Stay tuned. We think this is going to be pretty exciting.
